It covers Netscape’s last year as an independent company, from their announcement of the Mozilla open source project until their acquisition by AOL. It particularly focuses on the last minute rush to make the Mozilla source code ready for release by the deadline of March 31 1998, and the impact on the engineers’ lives and families as they attempt to save the company from ruin.

The Khaleeji Voice – Artisans of the Arabian Street

Post by Mark

Melchior and Quentin traveled through Bahrain, Saudi, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman to compile a 6 book set about artists creating urban art in the GCC. 5 people specializing in everything from Beatboxing, Rapping, Graffiti, Dancing and more were featured in each volume. This video documents all of their work in each country through stop motion clips they shot combined with music videos shot for the artists they interviewed by directors from around the GCC and myself. I was fortunate enough to assist them with their trip in Kuwait along with Monstariam. After they left we remained in contact and have become and will remain friends and frequent collaborators. The 6 volume boxed set of books will be available soon! – TJCfilms

“Now Showing” by filmmaker Abdullah Al-Daihani

Post by Mark

nowshowing

“Now Showing” is a short film Directed by young filmmaker Abdullah Al-Daihani (Swing 2011). It tells a coming of age story about three friends; Mishari, a youngster from the middle class who lives with his single mother, Abdulrahman who is from a very conservative family, and Cinema Grenada, a place were dreams come true. It is set in late 70’s when Kuwait was living its boom and started to accept different foreign cultures through Television and Cinema at that time.

nowshowing2

The film is currently participating in Abu Dhabi International Film Festival taking place from Oct 23 till Nov 1st. I’ve watched the trailer and the film looks great and I would love to share it but due to the festivals policy the director isn’t allowed to publish any part of the film online.

So if you’re in Abu Dhabi and want to watch the movie, check out the screening times [Here]

Finally just an interesting and sad note, Cinema Grenada, where the film was shot, was the last Stand-alone “Classic” cinema in Kuwait and it got demolished one week after they finished shooting.
